Did You Know?
CPAs are governed by a strict code of professional conduct, with
the hallmarks of the profession being independence, objectivity,
and integrity. CPAs have to meet stringent licensing
requirements, which include having a college degree (the current
trend is to require the equivalent of a masters degree in most
states), passing a two-and-a-half day national examination, and
meeting certain work experience requirements in order to qualify
for the CPA certificate and state license. To maintain their
licenses, they need to pass 40 hours of continuing education
credits each year, and, if performing independent audits and
reviews, must pass peer reviews by other CPAs.
Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) act as independent auditors,
financial and tax advisors, operational efficiency experts, and
information technology consultants to individuals, businesses,
governmental entities, and not-for-profit organizations.
